Species Conservation on the Gold Coast

Glow Worm Caves Awarded Best of Queensland Experience 2022

Tourism badge QLDWe are excited to announce that Tourism Queensland awarded the Tamborine Mountain Glow Worm Caves a 'Best of Queensland Experience' listing (for the second time) last month, recognising us one of the must-do experiences when visiting the Gold Coast! And, let's not forget that Tamborine Mountain was named the sunshine state’s top tourism town back in July, beating out six other destinations. What a top spot!

The program was developed to help the Queensland tourism industry to deliver exceptional transformational experiences and to attract more visitors to our lovely region.

Our dedicated staff have worked hard to uphold our conservation standards as the world's only Glow Worm Sanctuary while making our tours a fun experience for the public.

We greatly appreciate the public's support for Glow Worm conservation and our talented team of biologists and tour guide's hard work.

What do our glow worm caves offer QLD tourism?

Our grounds and Glow Worm Caves are without a doubt one of the most popular tourist attractions on all of Tamborine Mountain and is a truly breathtaking experience.

Visiting us always makes for an incredible day out for the whole family. This artificial habitat for one of Australia’s most overlooked natural wonders offers a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Guided Tour at Glow Worm Caves

Our amazing caves were purpose-built for the glow worms to create a sanctuary, while the ticket proceeds from our guided tours help us to continue to do so. There’s never been anything else like it. It’s essentially because glow worms in our rainforest locally have no physical protection around them.

Anyone can access them, touch them or take them home, and that led to a big decline in populations. They’re one of those animals that desperately need protection and unfortunately, at the moment, there aren’t any other protective programs.

The tour will take you through an introduction to these unique worms and then a walk-through of the magical cave where their lights cover the cave walls. Spots for each tour are limited so make sure you book a ticket!

Conservation at Tamborine Mountain

Our cave was created in 2005 to help protect and breed the local glow worm species, Arachnocampa flava. However, Glow worms aren't our only focus.

Our property on Tamborine Mountain is home to a reforested wildlife corridor, a stretch of native rainforest planted with the help of Landcare AustraliaLand for WildlifeScenic Rim Council and local organisations.

Together we help manage the rainforest in order to provide natural habitat to a host of native Australian wildlife, including platypus, squirrel gliders, emerald spotted tree frogs and more!

By continually investing in our environment, we hope to ensure the survival of local species for years to come.
